Latest snow forecast

Updated: 1.10pm Friday 25 February 2022

After the passage of a weak cold front that will bring a little snow to some northern parts of the Alps tonight and early tomorrow, especially in Switzerland (e.g. Engelberg) and Austria (e.g. Lech, Saalbach, Kaprun), high pressure will then take charge of the weather in the Alps, meaning that it will be relatively quiet over the next few days at least.

From tomorrow there will be plenty of fine, sunny weather which will last until the middle of next week and perhaps beyond.

The area of high pressure is positioned in a way that means that the air will be coming mostly from the east. This is good news for the Alps as this is a cool wind direction at this time of year, which will limit the pace of any snow melt, despite the rapidly strengthening sun...

Detailed weather & snow forecast:

Austria

Saturday will start mostly cloudy in the Austrian Alps, with some flurries to low levels across the north (e.g. Seefeld, Kaprun, Schladming). These will tend to die out later though, with some sunny spells developing. The far west (e.g. Lech) and south (e.g. Nassfeld) will be mostly dry and sunny throughout.

Sunday and Monday will be dry and mostly sunny but quite cool with freezing levels generally below 1500m.
