Praz de Lys - Sommand is a little known snow-pocket in the Haute-Savoie not far from Les Gets.

It's not a high resort – the skiing barely reaches 2000m – but it does have a reputation for big snowfalls, and conditions are sometimes better here than in the nearby resorts of the Portes du Soleil.

But whilst snow cover is pretty reliable here, snow quality is more variable - as it would be in any French resort at this altitude.

Where to ski in bad weather:

Many of the slopes in Praz-de-Lys are at least lightly wooded, but the thickest forests are on the slopes served by the 'A' chair just below the resort. This is therefore the lift to use in heavy snow or poor visibility. Another good bet is to head to the slopes immediately above Sommand.
