Bad Gastein’s top slopes are reasonably high by Austrian standards and hold their snow well, especially above Sportgastein.

 

Snow conditions are more variable lower down and the sunny Angertal area is known to be vulnerable later in the season. Snow-making is strategic (covering many of the crucial links) but not comprehensive.

Where to ski in bad weather:

In poor visibility head for the Graukogel area, which has the most trees.
