Close to the northern edge of the Alps, Wengen has a decent snowfall average (at least at altitude), but the area is low and conditions are highly variable.

Snow cover is rarely a problem up on Kleine Scheidegg and Mannlichen, but can be worn or patchy lower down, particularly near Grindelwald.

Across the valley, Mürren is higher, shadier and often has the best snow in the area.

Snow-making is improving and now covers more than half the area.

Where to ski in bad weather:

Wengen has a lot of open terrain but there are some more sheltered wooded runs on the way back to resort, more particularly close to the train-line above Grindelwald.

Where to head in poor snow conditions:

The best snow conditions in Wengen are often found off the Eiger-Nordwand and Lauberhorn chairs.
