Montgenèvre is fortunate to be situated at the snowier end of the vast Milky Way ski area, and benefits from snow storms coming from both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. As a result, average snowfall is higher here than in most southern Alpine resorts and snow reliability is generally good.

Snow quality is more variable, however, but usually at its best on the north-facing Gondrans and Aigle sectors. On the other side of town, Le Chalvet gets more sun and is less reliable towards spring.

Where to ski in bad weather:

Montgenèvre has plenty of tree-lined runs offering shelter in bad weather. The best of these are on the lower half of the Prarial/Aigle sectors, as well as towards Claviere in Italy.

Where to head in poor snow conditions:

The high, open and mostly north-facing slopes of the Les Gondrans bowl usually offer the best snow conditions in the area.
