Courmayeur’s average snowfall is modest, but its snow cover is fairly reliable, especially on the shadier Val Veny side of the mountain.

Later in the season, the sunnier Plan Checrouit side can deteriorate rapidly, but extensive snow-making helps keep most pistes open.

Note that the weather can be very different here on the southern side of Mont Blanc than in Chamonix just a few miles to the north. Chamonix has a better chance of powder than Courmayeur, but also a higher chance of rain.

Where to ski in bad weather:

The Val Veny side has all the trees and is the place to head to in bad weather.

Where to head in poor snow conditions:

In poor snow conditions you should head for the Bertolini chair, which accesses two wide well-groomed pistes offering just the right mixture of altitude and shelter.
