Mammoth is appreciably higher than the Lake Tahoe resorts (such as Heavenly and Squaw Valley) and offers more consistent snow quality.

Snowfall is sometimes erratic early in the season, but can fall by the bucket-load, and by spring, Mammoth often has the deepest base in the USA. Its season is also one of the longest and Mammoth has been known to offer skiing as late as July!

If there is one major drawback it is that the upper bowls are very exposed, and prone to closure in bad weather.
