Villard-de-Lans is the largest resort in the Vercors region near Grenoble, and one of the closest ski resorts to the western foothills of the Alps.

It gets a lot of precipitation and the risk of rain is considerable. In colder weather, however, it also has a reputation for heavy snow, and snow-making is excellent.

Overall, snow cover is reasonably reliable even if snow quality is more variable.
