With plenty of high altitude skiing and two excellent glaciers, snow is rarely a problem in Sölden, and the resort usually hosts the first world cup race of the season in October.

If Sölden has any weakness, it is the final descent into resort where the runs are sometimes worn, icy or slushy. At altitude, however, conditions are very reliable, especially up on the glaciers.

Where to ski in bad weather:

Most of Sölden's slopes are open and bleak in bad weather, but there are a handful of tree-lined pistes heading back to the village from the gondola mid-station.

Where to head in poor snow conditions:

Sölden is lucky enough to have two glaciers which, weather-permitting, all but guarantee good snow at any stage of the season.
