Close to the northern edge of the Alps, Grindelwald has a decent snowfall average (at least at altitude), but the area is low and snow conditions are highly variable.

Snow cover is rarely a problem up on Kleine Scheidegg and Mannlichen, but it is often worn and patchy on Grindelwald's lower home runs.

The First area also gets a lot of sun and is vulnerable later in the season.

Where to ski in bad weather:

The area between Grindelwald and Kleine Scheidegg has the most trees, and affords the best shelter in bad weather.

Where to head in poor snow conditions:

Ther upper part of the First ski area is often in the best shape. On the Wengen side, the best snow is usually found under the Eiger Nordwang and Lauberhorn chairs.
